FIRM PROFILE Lorraine Pike has been the President and Managing Associate of her own consulting firm for nearly two decades. Starting with just one client and a lot of energy, she grew CLP & Associates into a company that provides a full suite of corporate head office supports to emerging public companies. Lorraine’s expertise falls in the areas of administration and corporate governance and her firm provides all the services needed for the junior public company including business consulting, accounting and finance, IT infrastructure, websites, corporate secretarial, back office administration and everything in between. This one-stop approach provides the CEO and management team the freedom and peace of mind to focus on what they need to do to make their company succeed. Lorraine’s organizational skills, business acumen and keen eye for detail have been the markers of her success in this industry. In 2019, Lorraine made the decision to move on to new challenges. She is now applying her business leadership skills to a fledgling family company called Sable Shortbread Company Ltd. Over the last five years, Lorraine has been helping her daughter grow this microbusiness that makes artisanal shortbread and is now ready to tackle this project full on. Sable Shortbread makes local, delectable shortbread in dozens of wonderful flavours. They make their amazing gourmet shortbread cookies, by hand, in small batches, the way grandma used to. Sable Shortbread uses only the finest local, organic, fair trade and natural ingredients and never adds any artificial colours or flavours to the cookies. lp@corpsec.ca | lorraine@sableshortbread.ca Over its first five years the company went from just two flavours of shortbread to 50 flavours of shortbread; from baking in one oven booked by the hour at a shared kitchen to baking thousands of cookies every day; from a booth at a local farmers market to participating in juried national artisan shows. What started out as a two-person operation has grown to include a whole team helping to bake, package, sell, and administer the shortbread bakery. Now, this family operation is set to grow more over the next year from a farmers market staple to a bricks and mortar company, with the plan to branch out into online sales and wholesaling in 2020, making it a truly national brand. Much thought and research has gone into this next phase for Sable Shortbread. A lot of blood, sweat and tears has gone into Sable Shortbread over the last five years and the company’s leadership wants to honour that, to honour the dream and the vision, to honour the people and the process, to honour the product and the customers who are the reason to keep going. With Lorraine’s energy, business savvy and incredible leadership skills there is no doubt that Sable Shortbread will succeed in all these areas. And along with those skills, comes a product like no other. Eating a Sable Shortbread cookie is a joyful experience and that is the company’s promise, its motto, its purpose – to Share the Joy – with each and every employee, customer and stakeholder.
